“We are trying to rent one of the shophouses to open other Thabarwa center in Singapore. It is at the corner shop we have many things in this place in front of the shop. The 2nd floor has two toilets, the ground has only one toilet and shower. That’s price for the ground floor and the 1st floor is about 8,000 SGD. We are trying to negotiate that price. This is in the business area, therefore, crowded with people and many 24 hrs – shops nearby the place. In front of the shop is a forest area, it’s a nice view. There’s also a bridge crossing road. So we have many empty land in front of the shop. This place is the most suitable for us for many people to volunteer together, for parties or funerals, for meditation, also for buying and selling, also for advertising what we need for the Myanmar community. There are many Myanmar families in the area so they all can live together, work together, help each other. The weakness of this place is that it’s far away from the Myanmar community. Therefore, meditation retreats are ok but difficult for part-time meditation every day, not many volunteers in that place, it’s good for social activities than part-time meditation. That is easy for Myanmar people to be together to do good deeds. But we need to apply for permission from the local authorities so if we can get it we can open it. This also for the shophouse, we need to apply for permission, now we already get one-year permission, it’s the 2nd year permission. They cannot accept a monastery but they can accept a meditation center. It’s possible if we try but we cannot say for sure. The center will continue to open for intensive meditation retreats and another Thabarwa center for part-time meditation and social activities.
We are doing good deeds here in Singapore that’s why we have great chances of doing good deeds; this small country, that’s why everything difficult, now we are trying to solve these problems by relying on doing good deeds. Tomorrow I will go to Yishun communities hospital to meet a Singaporean monk patient. He ordained in India for over ten years, his parents passed away already. None of his relatives and friends want to help him because they considering he became a monk because he was lazy to work. He used to stay in India as a monk for ten years but when his teacher died and could not get a visa to stay in India anymore. He is over 50 years old, he fell down at his apartment in Singapore and then was sent to the hospital. The operation cost is in Singapore Dollars 30,000 and his insurance covered only 18,000. Because he cannot pay enough expenses for medical treatment, that’s why he cannot go back home. He needs helps, therefore, we will go to meet him tomorrow. He is a monk that’s why we need to help him. It is one of the rare opportunities to do good deeds in Singapore. For Thabarwa center, we emphasize to do good deeds continuously without limit. Good results are caused by good actions. The monk needs 4,000 Singapore Dollars to go back home, the rest 8,000 SGD can pay step by step. If we are doing good deeds seriously here in Singapore we are sure to solve all these problems. The power of Dhamma is complete, enough to fulfill the needs of people. “
