Question: Dear Sayadaw, my back has trouble and the pain comes quickly when I meditate. That’s why I can’t meditate for long time. But is there any way for me to improve my practice and overcome the pain?

– “In fact, we need to change our grasping habits of the mind. Feeling pain or release in the body and feeling pain or pleasure in the mind all are to experience only, not to grasp as something we own. We should understand that nothing is permanent, everything is impermanent and natural. Both good and bad experiences in our body and mind are impermanent nature, appearing and disappearing by themselves; we just need to change our understanding, our views, no need to change the pain or suffering. If we are feeling painful we should keep straight our body, we should breath or lift up our body weight, it will release feeling of pain. We just need to change our views, actions or habits. Instead of sitting as we are used to do, we should sit or practise to be doing only. Pain is not something, not “mine” or “yours”, just ever new impermanent nature. Knowing the truth of feeling pain can help us to detach from wrong views or wrong actions. “
