“I have been teaching meditation in English since 2008, but in Malaysia, Singapore, not here. I’m very busy, overload in this country. It concerns with the changing condition of the country also. Changing politics, economics, education… Thabarwa center is also doing all kinds of good deeds, not only with all kinds of human beings: young and old, sick and healthy, monks and nuns… but also with the animals, environment… Because it’s necessary to do like this. Many things to do here in this country. So Thabarwa center, is also connecting with people around the country, and also dealing with many organizations.

We are doing good deeds in different ways. We rely on helping the others, giving donation, sharing what we have or not, and also keeping precepts at least five precepts: no killing, no stealing, no sexual misconduct, no telling lie, no using drug and alcohol. This is a basic precept, which is important for our safety: safety of people here and safety of this organization. Most of the people here are old and sick, hopeless and helpless… they have nothing to rely on. That’s why we have to rely on doing what is good, keeping precepts or safety to fulfil our needs we have to do what is good, not only physical needs, but also for metal needs for the stable and pure mind. So we meditate every day, every time as much as we can. It’s really effective.

In 2008, this was just empty land: no water, no electricity, no tree, no shelter, no building. Getting drinking water is also difficult. That’s why we are free to do good deeds here. This is the second center. The first center is in downtown, in the 45th street of Yangon. At that place, we bought 8 apartments. The first center is in a good location, many people know about the 45th street. It was crowded within a few months. Now over 120 people are staying there for free accommodation and food… but there are limits. We are not free to do good deeds in downtown of Yangon. That’s why we chose this place to do all kinds of good deeds freely. It’s not a developed area, so the land is cheap. We can do all kinds of good deeds here concerns with the people in this area. What we are doing here is right and good. Therefore, we got good results. In this way, this center developed quickly.

This is a public center, not private. Most organizations or meditation centers are private, not for all, not free. That’s why I decided to establish a public center for all who need help and who want to help. Most places or organizations were not free in 2008. That’s why we emphasized freedom rather than limits or disciplines. That’s why even from the beginning of this center although there is not much buildings, facilities. This place is crowded because of the freedom. We are not controling each other. We try to do good deeds as much as we can. We are trying to find our own mistakes, not the others. This is right to do. So, if someone stays here for a long time, their life and mind will change surely. So we can do good deeds continuously. There was a big nature disaster in 2008 which called Nargis. But we continue to do good deeds. There was also a flood & political crisis but we don’t close the center and continue doing good deeds.

Some people may go away, because they afraid of staying here but most people continue to stay here. In this way, we have enough time to practice teamworks who can take care of each other, who can do many things here until now. 6 years later In 2014, this center became stable. People in the society visit here for donation or for volunteering. They believe what we are doing here. So we get public supports. Only in 2014 and until now. In 2016, we started opening the Thabarwa center in other countries, the first center is in Malaysia. In 2018, we can open meditation center in the US, in Europe and also in Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand. Now about 18 centers in other countries.

Tomorrow I will go to Vietnam for a 10 days meditation retreat. In Vietnam I will teach both in Myanmar and English language, they will translate to Vietnamese. In the US, in Vietnam and In Europe I used to teach in English, then translate to other languages. If you want to meditate seriously, you can also follow our trips in other countries. You can develop quickly. Here I’m busy, but it will be released. I was able to teach in English in this country in the future. Here we emphasize doing good deeds together not only for us, but also for the others. That’s why we are friendly with each other in doing good deeds together. We became Dhamma friends who are doing good deeds together. But we are not grasping to do like this, that’s why you are free to do good deeds by yourself also. Some people are not interested in doing good deeds together. So they will do good deeds by themselves. It’s also ok. That’s why we are complete. Different views, different people, different ideas can survive here.

It’s also competition between each other. It’s good to develop. you’re free to do all kinds of good deeds here with others or by yourself. We will also support as much as we can, that is what we used to do. We are supporting to the people who are the most needed. Because of doing things like this, we can do more and more, we can support more and more. I have been doing good deeds since 1999. So I have over 20 years experience of doing good deeds. Only in 2007 I emphasize to do good deeds by teamworks. Because at the time, I can establish my own meditation center. That’s why I have a chance to accept the people to stay here as much as they want. That’s why we can stay and do many things together.

There are also many problems concern with finance, government, between each other, but we can successfully overcome them. Beside, we emphasize the truth: right view, right speech, right action. We emphasize practice, we learn mostly by practice rather than by reading or listening about the teaching of the Truth. At the present moment we are facing problems with finance. We have to pay for many debts. Because of the condition of the country there are many problems in this country within 6 months. We are also busy. We have to do many things. We don’t stop doing what is good. We have to pay about 500.000 USD dollars. But it is not much strange, we have been doing like this in the most difficulties. It’s also concerned with establishing a meditation center in the US, and also in Europe. The business is not good in most of the countries. So at the present we try to do good deeds more and more to overcome the difficulties. It will not be too long. Now the worst condition is already finished. It became better and better.
